Stylish ideas for timeless spaces

All colours have their moment, but if there’s one palette with timeless appeal, it’s the neutrals, and with Cloud Dancer as Pantone’s 2026 Colour of the Year, now’s as good a time as any to embrace this elegant aesthetic.

Neutral colours are anything but ordinary. They’re versatile and cover a whole spectrum beyond simply white or beige – there’s coconut, shell, latte, taupe, terracotta, and more to play with. And when those shades are paired with natural materials such as wood and the organic beauty of marble and quartz, these spaces can be rich in personality too.

Below, we give our best ideas for designing a neutral kitchen, inspired by projects from some of our favourite designers. From the little touches that make a contemporary neutral kitchen, to the art of using earthy tones in a space, these interiors show there are so many possibilities when it comes to a natural colour palette.

Opt for cream kitchen cabinets

Project by AKB Design | Photography by Sylvie Li | Features our Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Washwood Appliance Pull, 888 Bin Pull Drawer Handle and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Think of neutral kitchens and you think of cream cabinets. They’re classic, and always work – especially in light, airy interiors like this one. This space in Québec by AKB Design uses cream cabinetry that complements the neutral colour of the walls, opting for a mix of heights to make the most of the high ceiling and large feature window. The blue island is the statement piece, showing that primary colours work just as well in a neutral kitchen as creams and beiges.

Our Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Washwood Appliance Pull, 888 Bin Pull Drawer Handle and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish, add extra texture and refinement to the space, something that designer Audrée Kemp Bélanger says is her special touch: “A kitchen in neutral tones will always be elegant. Pay special attention to the many textures and details that will be part of the kitchen to really bring the room to life.”

Choose earthy kitchen tones

When your home is in a place like Canada’s Lake Massawippi, you want to make the most of all that beautiful nature. That’s what AKB Design did with this kitchen, using traditional farmhouse windows that maximise natural light and look out to the surroundings. This reference to nature didn’t stop indoors either, with natural textures and earthy kitchen tones in the cabinets, walls, and wood-panelled ceiling. Our Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Barwick Cabinet Handle and Withenshaw Cup Pull in our aged brass (BEL) finish help create the overall feel of a warm neutral kitchen.

Opt for white finishes for a modern neutral kitchen

Project by Amy Storm & Co | Photography by John Stoffer | Features our MIX Plain Cabinet Handle & Backplate, MIX Plain Cabinet Knob & Backplate and Edgbaston Pull Handle in our satin brass satin lacquered (SBSL) finish.

Nothing says a modern neutral kitchen quite like white. It’s fresh, it’s clean, and it will stand the test of time while feeling completely contemporary. That’s what interior designer Amy Storm chose for the kitchen at her home in Illinois. The clean white cabinets contrast with the dark wooden floors for a modern look, while our MIX Plain Cabinet Handle & Backplate, MIX Plain Cabinet Knob & Backplate and Edgbaston Pull Handle in our satin brass satin lacquered (SBSL) finish adds a touch of elegance to the space.

Add marble to create a luxury neutral kitchen

Project by Ashley Montgomery Design | Features our Washwood Cabinet Handle and Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knob in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish.

Neutral kitchens and luxury finishes go hand-in-hand, especially when those finishes are timeless and classic, like the ones chosen by Ashley Montgomery in this space. A touch of marble on the countertops, kitchen island, and splashback brings a sophisticated element to the neutral kitchen cabinets. Adding contrasting dark wood, as seen in the island, and brass, as seen in our Washwood Cabinet Handle and Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knob, both in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish, brings even more of a decadent touch.

Use brass accents for a timeless neutral kitchen

Project by Brooke Wagner Design | Photography by Joshua Caldwell | Features our Barwick Plain Cabinet Knob and Barwick Plain Appliance Pull, both with backplates and in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish.

A timeless kitchen design is an oft-coveted kitchen design. After all, it’s not a room that most want to renovate on a regular basis. A neutral kitchen will always be timeless, but as this butler’s pantry designed by Brooke Wagner shows, adding touches of brass only makes it more so. Here, Brooke used our Barwick Plain Cabinet Knob and Barwick Plain Appliance Pull, both with backplates and in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish, on the taupe cabinets to create a space that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Use soft, muted kitchen colours

Project by House Nine Design | Photography by Joey Kendal Brown | Features our Cabinet Pull Handle, Cabinet Knob, and Appliance Pull, all from our Colmore collection and in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish.

Muted colours are not only a great way to create a neutral kitchen, but a shade like this can be a softer, warmer alternative to bright white. House Nine makes the muted cream colour here the main event, using it to wash over the kitchen cabinets, walls, and wood-panelled ceiling, with a dark oak island bringing contrast to the space. Our Cabinet Pull Handle, Cabinet Knob, and Appliance Pull, all from our Colmore collection and in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish, both complement and contrast the muted kitchen colours, creating an inviting interior – exactly what you want with a kitchen that’s the heart of the home.

Choose natural materials for an organic modern kitchen

Project by Kate Marker Interiors | Photography by Margaret Rajic | Features our Barwick Appliance Pull with Backplate, Barwick Cabinet Knob, and Barwick Cabinet Pull with Backplate in aged brass (BEL) finish.

The thing about neutral colours is that they lend themselves very well to organic, modern kitchen designs, especially when paired with natural materials, as this interior by Kate Marker shows. There’s a statement marble kitchen island with dark wood at its base, blending the natural materials and providing a mix of light and warmth, which is also reflected in the honed marble countertops that sit atop the built-in wooden cabinets. As for the finishing touches? Our Barwick Appliance Pull with Backplate, Barwick Cabinet Knob, and Barwick Cabinet Pull with Backplate in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Choose greige as your neutral kitchen colour

Project by Rachael Somerville Interiors | Photography by Handover UK | Features our Withenshaw Cabinet Knob, Bakes Cabinet Handle, and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

It’s not all about whites, creams and beiges when it comes to neutral kitchen design. In this space designed by Rachael Somerville Interiors, it’s greige that takes centre stage: a blend of grey and brown that’s a unique mix of richness, softness and subtlety. The colour is used sparingly, seen in the kitchen island, door frame, and oven, allowing it to be an effective accent rather than overpowering. Our Withenshaw Cabinet Knob, Bakes Cabinet Handle, and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish, are the perfect complement to the greige, adding yet more richness to the colour.

Add stone worktops to neutral kitchen cabinets

Project by Sophie Paterson Interiors | Photography by Ray Main | Features our Grove Bamboo Cabinet Handle and Grove Bamboo T-Bar Handle in our satin antique satin lacquered (SAS) finish, and our Diamond Interwoven Grille in our antique brass lacquered (ABL) finish.

Sometimes, when there isn’t an abundance of colour to play with, a neutral kitchen can appear flat. But as Sophie Paterson Interiors shows with this project, texture can go a long way in making a white, neutral space rich with personality. Here, the team used marble stone worktops, as well as our Grove Bamboo Cabinet Handle and Grove Bamboo T-Bar Handle in our satin antique satin lacquered (SAS) finish, and our Diamond Interwoven Grille in our antique brass lacquered (ABL) finish, to add depth, texture, and contrasting shades to an otherwise all-white kitchen.
